1D Stochastic Inversion of Airborne Time-Domain Electromagnetic Data with Realistic Prior and Accounting for the Forward Modeling Error

چکیده

Airborne electromagnetic surveys may consist of hundreds thousands soundings. In most cases, this makes 3D inversions unfeasible even when the subsurface is characterized by a high level heterogeneity. Instead, approaches based on 1D forwards are routinely used because their computational efficiency. However, it relatively easy to fit responses with forward modelling and retrieve apparently well-resolved conductivity models. those detailed features simply be caused fitting error connected approximate forward. addition, is, in practice, difficult identify kind artifacts as modeling correlated. The present study demonstrates how assess introduced approximation include additional piece information into probabilistic inversion. Not surprisingly, turns out that simple modification provides not only much better reconstructions targets but, maybe, more importantly, guarantees correct estimation corresponding reliability.

Holistic inversion of frequency-domain airborne electromagnetic data with minimal prior information

The holistic inversion approach for frequency domain airborne electromagnetic data has previously been employed to simultaneously calibrate, process and invert raw frequency-domain data where prior information was available. Analternative formulation has beendeveloped, which is suitable in the casewhere explicit prior information is not available. It incorporates: a multi-layer vertically-smooth...

Advances in electromagnetic modeling based on integral equation methods and their application to 3D inversion of time-domain airborne data

Thirty-five years ago, Gerald W. Hohmann, late Professor of Geophysics at The University of Utah, published a seminal paper on 3D electromagnetic (EM) modeling using the integral equation (IE) method. This achievement subsequently inspired a considerable body of research in 3D EM modeling and inversion. Over the decades, the IE method evolved from the academic intrigue of EM fields scattering f...

improving the inversion of helicopter-borne frequency-domain electromagnetic data with depth constrained

generally, the measured secondary field data is inverted into resistivity using two principal models; the homogeneous half-space model and the layered half-space model. while the homogeneous half-space inversion uses single frequency data, the inversion is done individually for each of the frequencies used, the multi-layer 1d inversion is able to take the data of all frequencies available into ...

3D forward modelling of time domain electromagnetic data

We develop a forward modelling algorithm for computing time domain electromagnetic responses for conductive, permeable bodies in the low frequency regime. Both physical properties can be highly discontinuous. The parameter regimes considered give rise to highly stiff problems in the time domain and an implicit method, backward Euler, is used for time-stepping. At each time step the electromagne...

Effective and accurate processing and inversion of airborne electromagnetic data

In this keynote talk, we discuss an effective inversion algorithm, which is both subjected to intense research and development as well as production. This is the well know Laterally Constrained Inversion (LCI) and Spatial Constrained Inversion algorithm. The same algorithm is also used in a voxel setup (3D model) and for sheet inversions. An integral part of these different model discretization...
